Advanced Research Degrees in Divinity: Program Summary
Divinity refers to the study of a particular religion or theology. At the associate's degree level, programs under this name often refer to the study of Christianity. These studies are used as an educational background for aspiring ministers, pastors or church leaders.
These 2-year programs are primarily offered through private, Christian universities and colleges. They are designed to prepare graduates for further study in theology or for careers in practical ministry. They provide students with an educational and historical background in Christian faith and beliefs, while at the same time supplying the communication tools and counseling skills necessary to serve a congregation.
Education Prerequisites
Some schools offering Associate of Divinity programs do not require incoming students to have any particular educational or professional background beyond a high school diploma. However, some Christian schools do require that individuals entering an associate's degree program in divinity have at least three years of experience working within a church in some capacity.
Program Coursework
Advanced research, honorary degrees of divinity, pair research with seminars and classroom lectures covering the history of Christianity and the Christian doctrine. Professional lectures or internships may be required. Themes from each type of course include:
* New Testament
* Old Testament
* Hermeneutics
* Theology training
* Counseling
* Moral decision-making
* Contemporary Christian life
* Pastoral ministry training
* History of Western civilization
Continuing-Education Options
Those who hold a B.A., who are interested in learning more about other religions or theology in general, and have access to a Christian University, might consider master's degree programs in theology or religious studies. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs in theology offer students the chance to research theology in depth and pursue a career in academia.

A Summary of some of the main modules of study:
*
Principles of Faith
Provides a solid grounding in all the main doctrines of the Bible, in relation to the times we are living in, and the preparation necessary to finish the work God has given us to do. With emphasis on the plan of redemption, as viewed through the cross of Christ and His ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary, this set of modules will repeat old truths in a new and living way.
*
Prophecy

Principles of Christian Education
True education is the restoration of the image of God, in the human soul. The education takes in life skills, character development, social skills, and improving all the talents God has given us to do all within our reach, by God's grace, to accomplish the work that Christ has left us to do. This education is far broader than most realize, but is made practical and useful.
